Pakistan appreciates its links with the United Kingdom, PM Shehbaz says Johnsonadmin
Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has restated Pakistan’s aim to strengthen ties with the United Kingdom in various spheres, with a particular emphasis on increased economic and investment cooperation.
In a phone call with British Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Monday, he stated that Pakistan values its relations with the UK, built on historical ties and shared interests on a wide variety of problems.
The Prime Minister emphasised the long-standing Pakistan-UK connections and praised the good contribution of the 1.6 million Pakistani Diaspora in creating tighter links and building bridges between the two nations. He also stressed the importance of strengthening collaboration in legal migration to exploit the potential fully.
He congratulated the United Kingdom on the platinum jubilee of Her Majesty The Queen’s coronation. Both leaders stressed the significance of commemorating the 75th anniversary of Pakistan-UK diplomatic ties in a meaningful way.
Shehbaz Sharif emphasised the importance of Pakistan-UK Enhanced Strategic Dialogue (ESD) and proposed a 10-year framework for moving relations further in various disciplines. He said that the ESD should strengthen mutual involvement and take the bilateral cooperation to the next level. He also praised the United Kingdom’s efforts to promote education, health, and other social areas in Pakistan.
Shehbaz Sharif emphasised the need for peace and security in Afghanistan and the necessity to increase efforts to prevent a humanitarian disaster in a regional context. He emphasised the need for the international community’s constructive diplomatic and political engagement with the Interim Afghan Government for long-term peace and stability in Afghanistan. He also emphasised the significance of releasing Afghanistan’s frozen assets to stabilise the country’s young economy.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson expressed his government’s sincere appreciation for Pakistan’s assistance with the UK, particularly in the aftermath of developments in Afghanistan after 15 August 2021.
The Prime Minister emphasised the egregious abuses of human rights in Indian-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). While emphasising Pakistan’s commitment to regional peace, he emphasised the significance of a peaceful resolution to the Jammu and Kashmir problem. He also emphasised the need to preserve strategic balance in the South Asian area.
Both Prime Ministers also discussed the situation in Ukraine and other topics of mutual concern.
Shehbaz Sharif has asked British Prime Minister Boris Johnson to visit Pakistan on mutually agreeable dates. The two leaders decided to maintain constant communication.
Prime Minister Johnson congratulated Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on his election and assumption of office, emphasising the UK’s determination to strengthen its bilateral partnership with Pakistan.
